Cuba pays for oil in goods
The
Daily Journal,
Venezuela, December 13, 2005.
Venezuela, the world's fifth-largest oil
exporter, said Cuba has been paying in goods
and services this year for the oil it receives,
El Universal reported, citing President
Hugo Chávez.
Chávez didn't say what goods and
services Cuba is using to pay for the oil,
the newspaper said. Previously, Cuba was
paying for the oil with cash under preferential
terms, the newspaper said.
Chávez, who is on an official tour
of Paraguay, said other countries, including
Paraguay, may pay for Venezuelan oil in
goods and services as well, the newspaper
said. Cuba purchases about 90,000 barrels
of oil a day from Venezuela. The agreement
has been criticized by Venezuela's opposition,
who claim Cuba resells the crude for hard
currency. Bloomberg
