Political prisoner gets expired medicines

SANTA CLARA, Cuba - April 25 (Guillermo Fariñas, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Prison authorities gave political prisoner Miguel Díaz several packages containing expired date medicines at La Pendiente prison on April 21.

Díaz said State Security delayed the shipment until the medicines lost effectiveness. "I think the agents let my medicines spoil on purpose, to blackmail and demean me," said Díaz in a telephone interview with Cubanacán Press.

The medicines had been sent by Cuban exiles in Miami.

Díaz, a 62-year-old Cuban-American, was apprehended in 1994 after he landed in the north coast of Villa Clara province with a commando force. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
