Father obliges daughter and son-in-law to
leave family home
SANTA CLARA, Cuba - August 16 (Guillermo
Fariñas, Cubanacán Press /
www.cubanet.org) - Independent journalist
Niurvys Díaz Remond says her father
insisted she and her husband leave the family
home where they lived because authorities
planned to arrest her.
Blas Díaz Aguilar, a leader in Cuba's
food industry, went to his mother's home,
where Díaz and her husband were staying,
and told her to leave.
"My father told me that I was going
to be sentenced to 30 years in prison,"
she said.
Diaz's husband, Roberto Carlos Pérez
García, is national coordinator of
the National Christian Democratic Movement
in Cuba.
Díaz, a former economics student,
is an editor at Cubanacán Press and
belongs to the dissident Guillermo Cabrera
Infante Union of Independent Writers and
Journalists.
