No reply to suit against prohibition of Cuban guests in hotels

HAVANA, Cuba - August 1 (Amarilis C. Rey, Cuba Verdad / www.cubanet.org) - There has been no reply after five months to a lawsuit launched by independent journalist José Antonio Fornaris Ramos against the government asking that a ban on Cuban citizens staying in hotels used by foreigners be lifted.

Following normal procedure, Fornaris Ramos gave the suit to the prosecutor's office with a copy to the to the Supreme Court. The prosecutor's office had promised a reply to the suit within 60 days.

One paragraph in Fornaris'suit said: "I ask that the prosecutor leave without effect the disposition that prohibits Cubans from staying in the country's hotels, because that measure is harmful to human dignity and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution."
