Shortage of doctors results in the closure of five clinics

CIENFUEGOS, Cuba - August 2 (Vicente Pérez Varela, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - A shortage of doctors caused mainly by the loan of doctors to Venezuela has resulted in the closure of four of five clinics in a Cienfuegoes district.

Doctors in three clinics in the Junco Sur district were sent to Cuba while the doctor in another was transferred to a military unit.

"They've undressed one saint to dress another," said Olga Alonso, a resident in the district.

The government has assigned nurses to help fill the gap caused by the departure of the doctors.
