Fire guts three houses in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, September 22 (Ariel Delgado, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - A house fire in the Atarés section of Havana spread to two contiguous structures and gutted them all, despite their masonry construction. There were no reports of victims.

A fire department officer at the scene said the investigation into the causes would begin forthwith. Neighbors said the occupants cooked with a kerosene stove.

According to government figures, there are about 40,000 homes in Havana that don't have gas cooking facilities and whose occupants use kerosene stoves to cook.
