Dissident beaten and fined by police

MANICARAGUA, Cuba, October 26 (Jesús Hernández Medina, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Police stopped dissident Leonardo Dévora at a check point in Manicaragua, beat him and later fined him 200 pesos.

Dévora said he was traveling with two companions on a tractor when police stopped them. After they searched them and the vehicle, police found a small quantity of coffee, which police tried to get Dévora to admit was his, in spite that one of his companions had acknowledged it belonged to him.

After exchanging some words with police and getting roughed up for his troubles, Dévora says he was fined 200 pesos at the police station.
