Residents of temporary shelters in Cuba demand better conditions

HAVANA, Cuba, October 19 (Richard Roselló / www.cubanet.org) - Residents of Lugardita, a community of temporary shelters in the Boyeros municipality of Havana, demanded an improvent in living conditions in a letter to local government authorities.

The letter points out the shelter has cracked walls, and concrete floors that were never finished. In terms of security, residents say, there is scant lighting in the area and police seldom if ever patrol, conditions which they say foster little personal security.

The shelter consists of 59 cubicles in which live five persons each, on average. The residents all were allocated here after losing their houses to collapse or other causes.
