MONTPELIER, Vt. Vermont expects to send
its first shipment of dairy cows to Cuba
early next year.
The shipment is part of a trade agreement
Agriculture Secretary Steve Kerr worked
out during a trip to the island nation in
early September.
The estimated seven (m) million dollar
deal calls for Vermont companies to sell
dairy cows, nonfat powdered milk and apples
to Cuba.
Kerr's visit followed a trip by Vermont
Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie in April
to find out what Vermont products the Cubans
might want.
Vermont plans to send 50 Holstein heifers
and 50 pregnant Jersey heifers.
Kerr says details of the powdered milk
and apple deals are still being worked out.
