Housing inspectors in Cuba fired for signing
Varela petition
SANTA CLARA, October 1, Cuba (Miguel D.
Tejeda Tenorio, Cubanacán Press /
www.cubanet.org) - Two housing inspectors
in Villa Clara province were fired after
authorities learned they had signed the
Varela project petition, a civil society
initiative that seeks limited changes in
Cuba's government.
The inspectors, Sandra Cedeño and
Odalys Bacallao, say the director of the
Municipal Housing Authority, Vladimir Triana,
told them in an open meeting why they were
being fired, but that their employment dossiers
do not state the same information.
