Steel foundry partially shut down
HAVANA, October 1. Cuba (Lázaro
García / www.cubanet.org) - Havana's
Antillana steel foundry was ordered to cut
back to half its productive capacity to
help the government cope with the crisis
in electrical power generation.
The plant employs hundreds of workers who
were sent home with partial salaries. It
dates back to the 50s and consumes inordinate
amounts of electricity, since it has not
been modernized since it was nationalized
in 1960.
