Cuban graffiti artist subverts government slogan

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, September 28 (Diolexis Rodríguez Hurtado, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - By simply adding a number "7" a local graffiti artist turned a government slogan painted on a wall into an anti-government pasquinade.

The original sign, asking for "Liberty for the 5 prisoners of the Empire," refers to the 5 Cubans convicted of spying and held in U. S. prisons.

Someone took advantage of a blackout last Thursday and added a "7," making the number 75, a reference to the 75 dissidents and independent journalists imprisoned by the Cuban government in March, 2003.

By Friday, government workers had erased the whole thing off the wall.
