- Political prisoner Raúl Arencibia
Fajardo confined in prison 1580, is in precarious
health situation, denounced this day from
Havana his wife Olga Ibarra Echevarria.
Ibarra pointed out that on October 7th
she was able to visit her husband for three
hours and that her husband has a constant
cough, high fever and sore throat, as result
of a lack of medical attention that dates
for more than a month now.
"My husband told me to continue denouncing
these violations", pointed out Olga
with tears in her eyes. "On October
6th he was taken in a cage with about 15
common prisoners to the hospital in Combinado
del Este, where they took an x-ray of his
lungs but x-rays of his head could not be
taken for the lights went out. All the while
he was held in a cell without food or medication.
To this day they have not given him the
results of the tests and officials at the
Bureau of Prisons claim said delay has been
due to lack of transportation."
Raúl Arencibia presents chronic
lung ailments that include a staple in one
of his lungs. "The inhumane conditions
he is being forced to live in deteriorates
his system in such manner that his sentence
feels twice longer. I'm desperate, he is
too thin, and he's lost too much weight".
Arencibia Fajardo is a member of the Pro
Human Rights Movement 24 of February. Months
before his arrest he sponsored a project
in solidarity with the political prisoners
called "Solidarity Mail", which
consists of sending dozens of letters of
support in lots to the political prisoners.
Arencibia Fajardo was sentenced to three
years in prison in an unjust trial, accused
of the supposed crimes of "Contempt"
and "public disorder" along with
the dissidents Virgilio Marante Guelmes
and Orlando Zapata Tamayo. The latter recognized
as a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International.
