Havana's showcase hospital refurbished to treat health tourists

HAVANA, June 25 (Richard Roselló / www.cubanet.org) - The Hermanos Ameijeiras hospital in Havana, one of the government's showcases for its vaunted health-care accomplishments, is being refurbished to provide services to health tourists in better than half its 24 stories.

The repairs were started about six months ago and are due to be completed by September 2. The 1000-plus-bed hospital is scheduled to be split, 55% for foreigners and 45% for Cubans. At present, only three of the top stories have been dedicated for the care of foreigners who pay for services in hard currency.
