Price increase rolled back due to drop in
sales
HAVANA, July 26 (Ariel Delgado Covarrubias
/ www.cubanet.org) - Internal Commerce Ministry
officials ordered prices at certain dollar
stores rolled back after a price increase
two months ago led to a drastic drop in
sales.
The measure applies to the stores called
Everything for a Dollar, from the way they
used to price their merchandise. On May
17, in a swift response to U. S. President
George Bush's announcement of tightened
economic measures regarding Cuba, the Ministry
announced that prices at Everything for
a Dollar stores would go up to 1.50 dollars.
Since then, sales at the stores went down
to 46% of their previous levels.
The Ministry has now ordered prices rolled
back to 1.20 dollars.
