FROM CUBA
Rain probabilities poor

HAVANA, July 6 (Serafín Descalzo / www.cubanet.org) - The probabilities of rain in the coming months that would alleviate the year-long drought Cuba has been suffering through are slight, said meteorologist Roger Rivero, of the Camagüey investigative center.

Rivero called the present drought "extraordinary" and said the rainy season should have started in May. Little rain has been felt across the island since then, though, and reservoirs keep getting lower. In the same way, subsurface water has diminished; wells have either dried or become deeper.

According to Rivero, Cuba can expect to become more arid in the near future.
