Near riot during blackout in Placetas

PLACETAS, Cuba, August 26 (María Elena Alpízar, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) - Several groups of residents of Placetas, in Villa Clara province, either enraged or taking advantage of a blackout in the early morning of Sunday, August 22, staged a near riot in the streets, yelling anti-government slogans and breaking glass doors in several government stores.

Some of the disorders were staged by revelers who had been at the Centro Cuba cabaret. Others threw stones and broke the plate glass at the Bazar Yamba-O and El Lente photography shop. In several places, people could be heard shouting "Down with Fidel" and "Down with Communism."
