Peasant fined after his three head of cattle are stolen

HAVANA, August 20 (Richard Roselló / www.cubanet.org) - Arecelio Medero will have to pay a fine of 1500 pesos for "not caring for his animals" after thieves stole two oxen and a heifer from his home in Batabanó August 16.

Medero lost two head a few months ago and also had to pay a 500-peso per head fine then. Now he has no cattle left.

Sources close to Medero said the thieves went into the yard, poisoned his dog and walked the cattle to the road, where they possibly loaded them onto a truck.

This year, 15 head of cattle have been stolen in Batabanó; last year, more than 600 were stolen.
