Phone calls to U. S. Interests' Section in Havana almost impossible to place from provinces

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, August 9 (Miguel D. Tejeda Tenorio, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - It is becoming almost impossible to call the U.S. Interests' Section from the provinces, leading some Havana residents to charge up to 50 dollars to obtain appointments with consular personnel for phone-less provincial residents.

The causes for the telephone difficulties are unknown. Callers from outside Havana report trying to place calls for hours and getting a telephone company recording that tells them to try again later due to congested lines.
