Government to inspect Havana housing stock

HAVANA, October 15 (www.cubanet.org) - A commission made up of architects working for the Institute of Housing has started to inspect this capital's housing stock to assess its condition and relative state of disrepair.

The architects are being selected by the several municipal housing offices in the municipalities where the problems are most acute. At present, the inspections are limited to the municipalities of Old Havana, 10 de Octubre, Central Havana, and El Cerro. "Very likely, the investigation will extend to the whole country," said one architect that is working in 10 de Octubre.

The architect said the expectation is that fully 80% of the housing is deteriorated or in need of maintenance, including the units classified as regular and poor.
