Young man awaiting trial for ripping Cuban flag

HAVANA, Cuba, October 3 (www.cubanet.org) - Aldia Héctor Martínez, 26, is awaiting trial for presumably ripping a flag that was hanging from a building in Bayamo, eastern Cuba. Martínez is accused of insulting a patriotic symbol.

Martínez was arrested September 29 when police picked him up at his home. He was taken to the first police unit in Bayamo and interrogated for more than 12 hours.

He is awaiting trial, and could be facing from one to three years in jail if found guilty.
