Cuban independent journalist attacked by two strangers

HAVANA, Cuba, October 1 - Independent journalist Adela Soto was attacked by two strangers Sunday when she alighted in Villa Clara from the train.Soto said the two men pinned her against the walls of the car and beat her up, but didn't take anything before taking off. She said she had made reservations for the 3rd car, seat 73, and that 15 minutes before departure

she had been called by the public address system to tell her that her seat was out of order and that she should take the last car.

Soto said she had filed a complaint with police after the incident, but that police didn't even ask her what her assailants looked like.

Soto travels once a month to visit her son, who has been in prison for 9 months awaiting trial for illegal entry into the country.
