Crackdown on pedicabs in eastern Cuba province

HOLGUIN, Cuba, November 18 (www.cubanet.org) - The National Revolutionary Police recently arrested and fined 25 pedicab owners, most of whom did not have licenses to operate.

The arrests took place in the municipality of Moa, where a joint Canadian-Cuban nickel mining operation is located. Residents complained that the pedicabs are needed because of lack of official transportation.

The owners were fined between 500 and 700 pesos, more than twice an average monthly salary.
