Cuban independent journalist freed after seven years of imprisonment

HAVANA, November 14 (www.cubanet.org) - Independent journalist Bernardo Rogelio Arévalo Padrón was released from prison this week after serving a seven-year sentence for being disrespectful to President Fidel Castro.

Shortly after leaving the Ariza prison near Cienfuegos, Arévalo Padrón telephoned Pedro Castellanos, president of the opposition Democracia movement, to give him the news.

He was arrested August 13, 1996.
