Young Cuban baseball players must supply their own equipment

HAVANA, Dec. 4 (www.cubanet.org) - The manager of the Central Havana baseball teams says that in the 18 months he's been on the job school age and juvenile players have had to supply their own equipment.

"The players have had to bring their own balls, gloves and bats from home," said Ricardo González. "Nobody has given me anything, neither the municipal nor provincial sports authorities, nor to my predecessors, as far as I know."

A used glove costs around US$7.50 while a new one costs US$32 in the dollar stores, the only places where they can be found for sale.
