Deficient medical care for imprisoned Cuban journalist

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, August 27 (www.cubanet.org) - It took Bárbara Rojas and her five-year-old son six days' travel time to visit her husband, imprisoned journalist Omar Ruiz, at the Combinado de Guantánamo prison, about 400 miles from her home in Villa Clara.

Rojas said her husband has lost weight, and that the only attention he receives for his high blood pressure consists of a doctor sporadically taking his blood pressure, but prescribing no medicines. Rojas also said that Ruiz gets tears in one eye when he reads, but that the doctor only told him that he is not that young anymore. Finally, Rojas said Ruiz is not getting any attention for an enlarged prostate, for which he was receiving treatment before being put in prison.
