Imprisoned Cuban journalist in punishment cell

HAVANA, August 20 (www.cubanet.org) - Imprisoned Cuban journalist Fabio Prieto has been confined to a punishment cell at Guanajay prison, presumably for insulting a Department of State Security officer known as Omar.

Prieto, 41, is serving a 20-year sentence at the prison. Recently he had been transferred to a cell block holding hardened criminals serving 30-year and life sentences.

Prieto is in a darkened cell about four-and-a-half feet wide, without a sanitary facility or electricity. He gets one meal a day, is not allowed to take the Sun during the 21-day period, and is not allowed any personal belongings.
