Prisoner
dies without medical attention
HAVANA, August 7 (www.cubanet.org) - In a letter
from Boniato prison, Santiago de Cuba, independent
journalist and prisoner of conscience Juan Carlos
Herrera revealed that an inmate who died last
month was refused medical attention for his condition.
Inmate Carlos Duane, wrote Herrera, died as a
result of a myocardial infarction July 19. "Since
the day before, Carlos complained of chest pain
and asked for medical attention, which he was
refused."
Herrera pointed out that it is very common for
guards to deny medical attention to prisoners.
