Cuban
political prisoner Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello
without family visits at the Hospital since Friday
M.A.R. Por Cuba's press release # 5. August
7, 2003.
August 7, 2003 - As per information provided
by Martha Beatriz' niece -- María de los
Ángeles Falcón Cabello - she received
a telephone call last Tuesday from the security
officer in charge, instructing her to be outside
the Carlos J. Finlay Military Hospital at 10:30
AM the next day (yesterday). The security officer
indicated that although she would not be able
to see Martha Beatríz on this occasion,
she would be able to bring clean clothes and food
for Martha Beatriz. The niece asked about Martha
Beatriz' health condition and was told by the
security agent that "she was fine".
María de los Ángeles went to the
Hospital yesterday as instructed. She waited outside
from 10:05 in the morning until 1 PM. No one came
out to meet her or to pick up what she had taken
for Martha Beatriz.
Family members are very concerned because relatives
have not been able to visit Martha Beatriz at
the Hospital since last Friday. Little is known
about her present health condition.
We hold Castro's regime accountable for the life
of this Cuban woman arbitrarily sentenced to 20
years in prison and transferred on July 24th from
Manto Negro prison to the Carlos J. Finlay Military
Hospital with high blood pressure, chest pains
and nose bleeds.
We make an urgent plea to the international community
to inquire about Martha Beatriz' health by calling
the Carlos J. Finlay Military Hospital, Telephone
# 011-537-260-9681 to demand that Martha Beatriz'
family be allowed to see her; that the required
medical attention for her delicate condition be
provided; and that she be immediately set free.
