Cuban rafters held in Jamaica

HAVANA, August 6 (www.cubanet.org) - Nine Cuban rafters, two of them government opponents, have been held by Jamaican immigration authorities since they reached the island three weeks ago.

Relatives in Cuba of the two government opponents, Erasmo Vázquez and Aris Vidal, fear that if they are returned to Cuba, they could be condemned to long prison sentences.

Vázquez and Vidal are members of the Liberal Democratic Party of Cuba. At least two members of the party were sentenced to 18 and 20 years in prison in April.
