Cuban independent librarian threatened

HAVANA (www.cubanet.org) - Two state security officers visited the Jorge Mas Canosa independent library and told librarian Librada Alvarez Leyva, a former political prisoner, that her conditional liberty will be withdrawn if she continues to accept visits by "counter-revolutionaries" in her home.

They also said they would remove "subversive propaganda" from the library.

The library is one of more than 200 independent libraries on the island.
