NUEVA GERONA, April 29 (Carlos Serpa Maceira, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) -
Local authorities say they will reopen a popular restaurant in Nueva Gerona, but
this time, service will be provided exclusively in US dollars.
"After remaining closed for months for repairs, the El Corderito
restaurant will reopen to service the dollar market on May 1," said a
source who didn't want to be identified.
The restaurant used to operate in the peso economy, although its prices were
high. Now it will be called Palmar.
It will join 27 businesses in the downtown area of Nueva Gerona operating in
the dollar economy. Another dollar outlet, the Di Tú cafeteria,
specializing in fried chicken, sausages, beer and soft drinks, will open shortly
in the area.
Residents mostly resent the dollar establishments, since, they say, their
income is in pesos.
