CAMAGÜEY, June 11 (Normando Hernández, CPIC / www.cubanet.org) -
The 180 residents of El Socucho and La Boca beaches in Puerto Padre, Las Tunas
province, lack basic services such as electricity, water, and transportation.
The towns don't have recreational facilities or an ambulance either, according
to a local human rights activist.
"Area residents are completely cut-off from the rest of the world. Only
during the holiday season does the government authorize the use of some vehicles
to guarantee the vacationers' presence," said Alberto Hernández, of
the Cuban Human Rights Party.
"All the benefits that the government brags about have not reached this
area, even though residents have complained more than once to the government,"
said Hernández.
