GÜINES, July 12 (José Izquierdo, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org)
- Local officials in Güines, a town south of Havana, forbid the sale of
carbonated soft drinks after detecting irregularities in the products
manufacture.
Six stores were closed by inspectors, who found the stores could not account
for the origins of the CO2 tanks they were using to carbonate the beverages.
A source who asked not to be named said officials think the CO2 was obtained
illegally by the stores administrators.
After the closings, all residents have left are private, government-licensed
cafeterias, where powdered drinks are available, and dollar stores, where they
may buy soft drinks as long as they have dollars to pay for them.
