Port whistle-blower harassed

HAVANA, January 25 (Aleida Godínez Soler, Lux InfoPress) - María Izquierdo, a cleaner in the workers’ dining hall at the port of Havana, charges she is harassed by her employers because she previously complained about an incident of sexual harassment by a supervisor.

Presumably the chief of internal controls at the port, Jorge Álvarez Salas, called Izquierdo to his office after working hours and invited her to have sex with him. Izquierdo, in a nervous fit, denounced him to the union, the administration, the Communist Party, and to all who were within earshot.

Now, Salas has been promoted within the port and, Izquierdo says, she is under constant surveillance for the slightest infraction.
