Havana, December 28 (Ernesto Roque, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) - The
Millennium's Three Wise Men Project has been gathering toys and used clothes for
weeks throughout the country to be distributed among needy Cuba children,
informed professor Moisés Leonardo Rodriguez Valdés, one of the
founders of this civic initiative.
"The producers of the project do not have a fixed number of needed
donations, because the greater the number is, greater will be the happy moments
that will occur that day", Rodríguez Valdés said.
He also explained that each person in charge of collecting toys and clothes
will give donors a certificate which will reflect the articles donated, among
other things.
According to Rodriguez Valdés, the Millennium's Three Wise Men
Project is a civic initiative that centers its drive in the rescue of a
tradition (celebration of the Epiphany) that the government of Fidel Castro has
tried to erase from the mind of the Cubans.
Any person that wishes to donate toys or used clothes can visit Moisés
Leonardo Rodriguez Valdés, 2410 45th Avenue, between 24 and
26, Cabañas, Mariel municipality, Havana, Cuba.
On other occasions the Millennium's Three Wise Men Project has received
donations from foreigners and these have been received by hundreds of Cuban
children - although the distribution of toys among poor children of Pinar del Río
cost the independent journalist Víctor Rolando Arroyo six months in
prison. The bases of this initiative were published in the web site
www.cubanet.org.
