Council of prisoners beat handcuffed prisoner

(GUANTANAMO, February 18th)- Arístides Moya Herrera, a 26 years old common prisoner who is serving a 30 year sentence in Combinado de Guantanamo was brutally beaten under the orders of the re–educator of Ward 4-A, known as Robertico.

This prisoner was handcuffed when a group of prisoners made up of highly dangerous criminals showed up and brutally beat him leaving him with a sprained in his right arm and bruises on his face, head and his entire body.

The motive for this criminal act against Moya Herrera was in retaliation for confronting officials when they tried to humiliate him.

(GUANTANAMO, February 17th) - This February 15th, in the weekly broadcast of Radio Revista Lux, an interview was conducted of former political prisoner and President of the Club of former prisoners and political prisoners of Cuba Alberto Martínez Fernández, who formally denounced before the international public opinion, to René L. Díaz, President of the FSPECA, brothers and sisters in the Exile Community, Radio Martí and Radio Mambí, the critical state of health of his 17 year old son Alberto Martínez Martínez, who was transferred to Combinado de Guantánamo this past November 18th, 2001, pending a trial for the "presumed" crime of illegally exiting national territory.

"My son Albertico was released extremely ill, so much so, that at the moment he is hospitalized in critical condition with acute leptopirosis, better known as "rat fever", he also has hepatitis. I am almost positive that he was released two days before the trial because they knew that my son was going to die in prison"- stated Martínez Fernández.

Presently, he is in floor 5th D, bed # 22 at the Agustino Neto Hospital in the city of Guantanamo – indicated Martínez Fernandez.

Alberto (the father) is sending this SOS asking for the support and intercession of all human rights organizations, also from the people and organizations above mentioned on behalf of his 17 year old son who is being victimized by the State Security in Guantanamo.

Alberto Martinez Martinez at such a young age, wrote a compelling letter to his loving father explaining his reasons for leaving national territory.
