HAVANA, April 10 (Ernesto Roque, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) - The
assistant director of the 'Aleida Fernández' hospital, in the city of Güines,
south of Havana, was fired from his job and evicted from the Communist Party
after he criticized the methods and procedures of the Public Health Ministry.
In addition, Dr. Jorge Borroto, and his wife, psychiatrist Odalys Acosta,
were evicted from their house. The local police chief, Capt. José Luis
Barcena, along with an unspecified number of agents, forcibly removed the couple
and their belongings from the house. Since the couple has no other place to
live, their furniture was deposited at the food warehouse at the corner of
Avenues 91 and 84.
Several colleagues of Dr. Borroto said his troubles started after he
criticized corruption and inadequate procedures at all levels of the Public
Health Ministry.
All colleagues spoke on condition of anonymity. "Tomorrow it could be
one of us getting punished," said one nurse at the hospital.
