Prisoner brutally beaten while having an asthma attack
(GUANTÁNAMO,CUBA/April 7th/PuentInfocubamiami.org) - Common
prisoner Juan Carlos Balón Céspedes was brutally beaten by officer
Andrés Terrero Olivares while having an asthma attack. This criminal act
took place when this prisoner began to complain against the Castro regime after
prison authorities denied his request for medications to aliviate his asthma
attack.

- According to information given by Anaika Paneca, activist of the Democratic
Party November 30 "Frank País", her husband Frank García
Llerena is being held in a punishment cell since Saturday, March 23rd, 2002 at
the Melena Prison in the Havana Province.
These punishment cells, also known as "The Hole", are maximum
security cells where they send prisoners that have committed serious discipline
violations while in prison.
Here is fair to clarify that the only violation committed by García
Llerena is that of disenting from the politics implanted in Cuba by the
Castro-Communist Regime.
In closing, Mrs Paneka stated that Frank is presently sufering with severe
pains, passing blood through his urine and is extremely thin. Also, he was
personally informed by officer Padilla that since his case is still pending his
family visitation rights were extended to every 21 days instead of every 15
days.
We hereby appeal to the international public opinion to follow this case
closely, for the life and physical integrity of this valiant defender of human
rights is in jeopardy.
We denounce this case as a clear example of the absurd and extreme
repression being perpetrated against our countrymen, specially against members
of our honorable organization.
