HAVANA, March 28 (Ana Rosa Veitía, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) -
The pizza parlor in Güines, a town south of Havana, was turned into a beer
parlor at the time the "Open Tribune" was held in the town by the
government.
The week before the Open Tribune, the town saw a large expenditure of
resources, political propaganda, and police repression, and the pizza parlor
reopened as a "recreation center", in which beer is sold from kegs day
and night.
Residents of Güines have to buy their pizza from private producers, who
make a good product in spite of not having access to the government's
resources, but at prices that are out of reach for the common citizen.
"The services to the population are inefficient. The authorities have
not been able to solve the problems," said resident Carmen Delgado.
According to her, during the first quarter of this year, the increase in the
consumption of alcoholic beverages and the decrease in the food supply has
become evident.
