HAVANA, September 23 (Aleida Godínez Soler, Lux InfoPress) - Cuba
Trimagen SA, a photographic services company presumed to be owned by the Cuban
armed forces, has ordered all its outlets not to develop or print photographs
that can be connected to dissident organizations.
When Alicia Zamora, the press secretary of CONIC, one such dissident
organization, went to the Trimagen outlet at Calzada de 10 de Octubre, between
Acosta and O'Farril Streets, to have a roll of film processed, she was told it
would not be developed. "The order comes from headquarters," said the
recepcionist, "and we cannot ignore it."
She further explained that each photograph processed bears a code on its
back that can be traced back to the shop that did the printing by the Department
of State Security at the time of a subsequent investigation.
A check of photographic studios and other photo processing outlets,
including those owned by the FotoService chain, revealed the order had also been
received by them.
