HOLGUIN, September 20 (Juan Carlos Garcell, APLO / CubaNet) - At the start
of the school year, there is a shortage of teachers at all levels in Holguín,
including the 'Oscar Lucero Moya' university.
The problem recurs every year, and this year it is not expected to improve
even though a number of new teachers were hired.
"I don't know why authorities say we have the highest number of
teachers per capita in the world, when the truth is that we don't have enough,"
said one teacher. Later, in reference to the government's policy of sending
teachers abroad, the teacher said: "They must think in those countries that
we have too many teachers in Cuba, but the fact is we don't have enough to cover
our needs."
