CAMAGÜEY, November 14 (Normando Hernández, CPIC / CubaNet) -
Officials at El Típico prison, in eastern Las Tunas province,
systematically ignore at least one inmate's need for medical attention.
Jorge Peña Molina, 28, has a stomach ulcer, and prison authorities
deny him both medical attention and relief for his pain, according to a report
smuggled out of the prison.
"The chief at El Típico, a major by the last name of Surí,
knows Peña's situation," said Alfredo Domínguez, who monitors
Peña's case for the Pro-Human Rights Party of Cuba.
"Prison authorities ignore Peña's disease and have even thrown
away his medical charts," said Domínguez.
According to Domínguez, there are few medicines available in the
prison hospital. "There is not even aspirin for pain relief," he said.
