Jesus Joel Diaz Hernandez, director of the Cooperativa Avileña de
Periodistas Independientes (CAPI), was threaten with returning to jail, after he
was given a police warning.
Diaz Hernandez served two years of the four-year prison term he was
sentenced to on January, 1999, after being convicted of "social
dangerousness". At the moment he is under parole.
"On the first of November I went to the police station #22 to sign, as
it's required. There the officer Rafael Surita wrote me a warning, because I'm
not working for the state. He said that after November 5 they would ask the
court to revoke my parole", explained Jesus Joel.
The 27 years old journalist doesn't work because the state won't give him a
job. He has been harassed and threaten with jail before.
Due to the unjust trial and further incarceration, Mr. Hernandez was
proclaimed prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International and was presented
with the International Press Freedom Award on 1999, for his work as an
independent journalist.
