Echevarría park in Havana is a wasteland

HAVANA, March 28 (Jorge Cordero, AFPCP) - The "José Antonio Echevarría" park in the Cerro district of Havana, across from the Latinoamericano baseball stadium, has been totally abandoned by the local government.

The park is named after a student leader who was killed during the fight against the Batista dictatorship in the 50’s. A bust that stands in the park in his memory has lost parts of the face and of the pedestal on which it stands. The fence that used to afford it some protection is deteriorated to the point where it almost isn’t noticeable.

The five light fixtures in the park don’t work and all plants have vanished with the exception of a few older trees.
