PINAR DEL RIO, March 16 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI) - After more
than four years of satisfactory work as a master pastry chef, Víctor E.
Peña García, a resident of Guane, in Pinar del Río
province, was fired from his job without being given any reason.
Peña, who worked at the Empresa de Cultivos Varios y Tabacos in Guane
was told February 19 by Juan Talancón, the administrative official in
charge, that he was not a permanent worker and that from that day on he could
only be employed as a laborer in a penal brigade doing agricultural work.
Peña says that his work had always been rated as good by his
superiors, but that belonging to the Pro Human Rights Party had earned him the
enmity of the administrators. He says that officer Iván Osuna has been
harassing him for months, and that officials would not give him a document
explaining why he was expelled from his job.
