Public phones vandalized in Havana

HAVANA, March 6 (Amarilis Cortina Rey, Cuba-Verdad) - Public phones are vandalized in Havana for their electronic components, which some say are used to modify common radios so they can receive closed-circuit stations which broadcast primarily to hotels.

The going rate for the components is reported to be 100 pesos. The demand for the modified radios which can receive music and entertainment programming intended for foreign tourists instead of the mostly political domestic programs is said to be high.
