BEIJING Feb. 28 Kyodo - Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan held talks
Wednesday with Cuba's Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque and agreed to renew
historical ties between the two countries, China's state-run news agency Xinhua
said.
''We will continue to support the just struggle of the Cuban people to
protect their independence and sovereignty and oppose foreign aggression,'' Tang
said.
The comment apparently referred to Cuba's long-standing opposition to U.S.
policies in the Western hemisphere.
Peres, whose weeklong visit is scheduled to end Saturday, paid tribute to
China's ''great achievement in building socialism'' and pledged to step up
cooperative ties between the two countries.
China and Cuba concluded an agreement to step up military cooperation last
December during a visit to Cuba by Gen. Fu Quanyou, chief of staff of China's
People's Liberation Army.
The two countries have strengthened their military ties since the collapse
of the Soviet Union.
