New Prison Sentence for René Montes de Oca Martija
(VILLA CLARA, CUBA, ) - The new trial of René Montes de Oca Martija,
President of the Human Rights Party of Cuba Affiliated with Andrei Zajarov, was
held in Ciego de Ávila, on November 29, 2001, where he was charged with
the crime of evasion, Case No. 84 of 2001 .
Esther Valdez, wife of the political prisoner, informed the director of the
Information Center on Democracy, Mercedes Clementina Constantin Figueroa, that
Montes de Oca was sentenced to 1 year and 4 months in prison. Relatives of the
prisoner which were present at the trial protested the imposed sentence, to
which the Magistrates of the Tribunal responded that it was not them that were
sanctioning the prisoner but it was the people of Cuba.
The trial of the oppositionist ended with screams of "LONG LIVE HUMAN
RIGHTS" from other oppositionists and family members whom were present at
the trial.
Esther Valdez adds, that several hours later, they were taken to the closest
office of the National Revolutionary Police, fined 20 pesos each and threatened
that they would be detained and serve long sentences for that kind of uproar.

Medical attention denied to political prisoner being held in torture
cell at "Combinado de Guantánamo"

(GUANTÁNAMO, CUBA, November 29, 2001) - Political prisoner, Ernesto
Lucas Corral Cabrera, 27 years old, who suffers from arterial hypertension, is
being victimized by the abuse of power and harassment by the repressive system
of the dictator Fidel Castro. This political prisoner is constantly treated
badly, food is given to him in terrible conditions, sometime even rotten.
Corral Cabrera, is being held in a "hole", is not allowed any
exposure to the sun, is also the victim of isolations and constant beatings, and
he is denied the medical attention which his illness requires.
These violations and inhumane measures taken by Captain Víctor Reyes
Cobas, against this political prisoner, is due to the firm and un compromised
attitude of Corral Cabrera against the totalitarian regime of Fidel Castro.
In protest to the above measures, Ernesto screams down with the dictator,
which angers the hired killers of the prison, whom with baton in hand, arrived
at Company 1 of Ward A-500 and after having beaten him they violently pushed him
all the way into the punishment cell.
The henchmen, at the service of the tyrant Castro, in the Guantánamo
provincial prison, not only deny medical attention to the prisoners, but they
also subject them to permanent cruel and inhumane treatment.
