A U.S. flag and the American national anthem greeted the students Wednesday
as they arrived in Havana. The students are the first Americans to attend a free
six-year program for students who cannot afford to pay for medical school.
The hopeful future doctors say that they are looking forward to studying in
Cuba.
"I understand that Cuban medical schools are some of the best in Latin
America and the world, so I have no reservations about the education I receive
here," Karina Mosi (pictured, right) said. "I am going to receive the
best education and I will have to take tests before I can practice in the U.S.
But I don't think I will have a problem passing the tests."
The state department says that it is unclear if the students will be able to
meet U.S. medical licensing requirements when they finish their training in
Cuba.
